OVERVIEW

What is APEDA Registration?

APEDA Registration is mandatory registration issued by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), a statutory body under the APEDA Act 1985. Every exporter of agricultural and processed food products listed in the Schedule to the Act must obtain this registration before commencing exports.

APEDA promotes and regulates 14 scheduled product groups — fruits and vegetables, meat, dairy, cereals, floriculture, honey, cocoa, beverages, groundnuts, pickles, guar gum, herbal and medicinal plants, and more. Registration unlocks financial assistance, TraceNet, quality standards support and trade promotion. It is separate from IEC; you need both.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, under Section 9 of the APEDA Act. No person shall export any scheduled product unless registered with APEDA. IEC alone is not enough for scheduled agri/food products.

14 product groups including fruits & vegetables, meat, dairy, cereals, floriculture, honey, cocoa, beverages, groundnuts, pickles, guar gum, herbal/medicinal plants and related processed items. Spices, tea, coffee and marine products are under other boards.

APEDA’s farm-to-fork traceability system. GrapeNet is used for grape exports; Organic TraceNet for organic products under NPOP. Registration with APEDA is the gateway to these systems.

Often yes for food products. FSSAI licence and, for some products, phytosanitary certificates, EIC certification or NPOP organic certification are additional requirements for export clearance.

No. APEDA is the statutory registration for scheduled agri/food products. RCMC is membership of an Export Promotion Council (which may include APEDA-related categories) for claiming RoDTEP and other DGFT incentives. Many exporters need both.
