OVERVIEW

What is a Contractor License?

A Contractor License (PWD Contractor Registration Certificate) is official registration issued by the State Public Works Department, Central Public Works Department (CPWD) or Municipal Corporation. It authorises an individual or firm to undertake building, civil, electrical, plumbing or road construction works of a specified value and to bid for government tenders.

Classification into Class A, B, C or D is based on financial standing (turnover, solvency), technical qualifications, past project experience and equipment. The license is class- and category-specific. Operating without a valid license on government works can lead to disqualification, EMD forfeiture, blacklisting and legal action under state contractor registration rules.
